We’ve been working on our paperwork to get married in the Netherlands, and it is a “process.” In New York, the only thing you need is your ID and your intended spouse and you can get married. Perhaps they should make it harder so they don’t have situations like Britney Spear’s 55 hour marriage.
In the Netherlands, there is a minimum 2 week waiting period before you can legally get married. The countdown starts when you submit the “ondertrouw” or Notice of Marriage which expresses your intention to marry this person.
Since I’m not an EU citizen, I had to present a lot more paperwork and certifications. After spending months gathering this paperwork, Guy and I have made a big step and entered into ondertrouw this week!
Yay! =)
Dear Guy and Ana,
First of all Ana, welcome to Holland! I hope you’ll enjoy it here as much as you do New York.
Congrats with the ondertrouw guys! I’m looking forward to your Big Day.
Cheers,
Rezi
Ps: please let me know if I can help with anything.
HI Rezi,
Thank you for the welcome!! I’m looking forward to meeting you soon 🙂
